Helaine Daniels tells a story that you want to follow. This is a quick read, and it shares so many levels of what it takes to become an educator and world adventurer. I love the title and its meaning. No one knows the cost of another’s alabaster box.

★★★★★What a journey…

Wow, what a journey the writer and her family have had over the years! For me personally, it re-enforced the notion that life is such a mystery. You never know what may lay ahead, but as she says, “the universe hears our dreams and will often conspire to make them come true, if we allow it.”

One other quote that resonated with me was one from her mentor, Ken Haskins… “There are always going to be numerous
important things competing for your time. You will need to establish your order of priorities early on before a crisis occurs so
that you don’t have to waste a lot of time pondering over difficult, nearly impossible choices in the middle of a problem.”

I’d recommend to others.

I recently posted a note on Facebook about my friend Helaine Daniels’ newly published memoir. I have since purchased a couple of copies as gifts and just this evening finished reading this beautifully told herstory of an African Queen! This is a story about family, love, sensuality, academic and professional excellence, and did I mention sensuality? Helaine is a beautiful, brilliant and passionate woman and shares her story in a way that only she can, with great candor, humility, pride and hopefulness. We all have gifts and purpose and in Wilhelmina’s Alabaster Box we find that sharing the gifts is how we most enjoy this sojourn. Order this book today!

There are stories to be told about the incredible African American women with southern roots and their mothers who paved the paths for their daughters to become citizens of the world. Wilhelmina’s Alabaster Box is a beautiful tribute to a mother and an amazing life story of a brilliant and accomplished daughter who would make any mother proud.

★★★★★ Review of “Wilhelmina’s Alabaster Box”

This entertaining memoir gives the reader a front row seat into the lives of the author, her mother, and her beloved grandmother. The hopes, dreams and expectations of three generations come alive on the pages.
The strength and determination shared by the ladies; combined with their love and courage, make the story relevant to a wide variety of readers. The fact that the author is African-American makes the story a must read for African-American readers. The fact that the author is my very own sister puts the book on the top shelf of my own bookcase.
I read the post script to my husband while we sat on the porch. He got teary and choked up and told me that he never realized that my mother actually remembered his name because she had always referred to him as “The Fair One.”?
I enjoyed the process of reading the book, and seeing the world through my sister’s eyes. A few sections of the book are part of my own history and memories, so holding the book and keeping it with me has been a bit like holding a family scrapbook, and holding a piece of family history in my hands.❤️
